Life of a Young Autistic Man

I'm starting to regret ever letting my father sign me up for geology

After my first week of college, I'm starting to think that my dad should never have signed me up for geology. The questions that pop up in the labs are really hard for me to answer, plus I have to wake up early to get to CBC (Columbia Basin College) because of it. I think I would consider myself more of a musically-talented person than a science-talented person. Plus, to make things worse, I have to go on a bus that is very crowded to get there, and on the bus, the driver tells us to get behind the white line, and with a bus that has maybe 10 to 15 people standing up in it, that is virtually impossible. For example, this weekend, I have to do all of the exercises in Laboratory 2. Most of the questions are very hard for me to answer, and I just want to give up. Besides, I didn't do very well in chemistry last time I tried to take it in college, and I think that my dad is out of his gourd to say that geology is easier than chemistry. In fact, I'd say that geology is just as hard as chemistry is. Plus, I don't think that I'm the kind of person who can get verbal instructions communicated to me effectively. I'm practically more of a person who can handle written instructions. Therefore, I don't think I'll ever get to have a career because my geology and geography teacher said that the boss will not write down the instructions for me and that I'll have to follow the instructions in a verbal manner.

Florida memories

Here are some things I remember about when I was in Florida:

  • One time, there was a flood, and a family of two good friends of mine named Kevin and Eric took me and my sisters to McDonald's.
  • One time, at church one night, my mom, some friends, and I had some Hungry Howie's pizza and some pop.
  • I had my baptism at church on December 1, 1994.
  • I got the chance to visit some people's houses, such as the houses of Tessa and Kara's, Eric and Kevin's, and J.D.'s.
  • At the end of my year as a 5th grader in Apollo Beach Elementary School, I got to eat pizza at a pizza party.
  • Sometimes I used to pick off pepperonis off of pizza for Rachel to eat. Later on, though, I just love the pepperonis like I do today. I'm a pepperoni pizza geek!
  • One of my favorite TV shows to watch was Mega Man.
  • The father of my friends Kevin and Eric used to be one of my scoutmasters.
  • One time I went camping with my father.

Reminiscing of Redfish vacation

One of my most favorite summer vacations was going camping at Redfish Lake. Here are some pictures.

In the first column, first row picture is Rachel and Emma. In the second picture is my Aunt Debra and cousins Jenny and Phillip. In the third picture are (from left to right): my cousins Tracee, Tanner, Wyatt, my Aunt Diane, another cousin of mine named Dannielle, and my mother's parents. In the fourth picture is me. I even got to go water tubing! Some pictures to show so are down below.

In the first tubing picture is my Uncle Wes and I. In the second and third tubing pictures are me getting into the tube and my Uncle Roger helping move the tube out. We even celebrated Alivia's birthday (Alivia is a daughter of my cousin Breya and cousin-in-law Dax).

I had a good time at Redfish, for I got to see many of my relatives and some of the camping food I ate was pretty good (I even got to have homemade macaroni and cheese and take some home with me). Below is a picture of my Uncle Blaine, my mother, my mom's mother, my Aunt Debra, and Alivia. Also, my Aunt Stephanie, Uncle Rick, and their family came. It was really fun!

In the picture below is my Aunt Stephanie and my mom.

The people who came to Redfish were my family and I along with Aunt Debra and Uncle Roger's family, Aunt Stephanie's family, my mother's parents, Uncle Blaine and his son Nick, as well as Uncle Wes and Aunt Diane's family. Aunt Joy and some cousins of mine from her family came too, but we never got to see them. Also, some people really got to enjoy a song that I sung to them.

Going through kind of a boring life; Summer Summary

My name is Neil, and one of the many things I like to do is singing and listening to some music. To best describe me, I am autistic and I'm not much of a talker. I usually do better in writing my ideas down than in speaking them out. At this point in my life, it's pretty boring because some of my snack food choices get deprived plus I only get to see some of my friends on a quite sporadic basis. Hopefully, as school comes back, that will all change. Now that I'm starting school again, I'm pretty worried, and some of it is geared on the fact that I'm going to have to wake up early (this is like zero-hour chemistry all over again) plus I have to deal with a lot of passengers on the bus in the morning, along with the possible pressures I probably will have when I'm taking geology---jeez!! Here is a picture of me and some of my family members. In the front, from left to right are my sisters Alicia, Stacey, Emma, my mom, and my other sister, Rachel. In the back, from left to right are Alicia's husband (whom is named Brian), me, and my dad.

In this picture above is my older brother (named Steven), my sister-in-law (named Meredith), and my newest niece, Gabriella.

In this picture is me and my dog, Belle. She is a golden retriever and we've had her for about 1 year now. She is quite fully grown.

Life is tough for an autistic boy like me. For instance, just about a year ago, I had a seizure last year in the bathroom. I don't remember much, except that I ended up in an ambulance and I had some really bad back pain. Plus, in college, I have to take some special accommodations just to keep myself on the level. I want to make friends yet find it kind of hard to because I'm very shy as well.
